Reflexology is an ancient, natural therapeutic technique based on the principle that there are areas, called reflexes, in the feet, hands and ears, which correspond to every part, gland, & organ of the body. Palpation and pressure on these reflexes causes the various body parts to let go of excess stress, tension and congestion. Blood flows in, elimination of waste is improved, nutrients are transported to all body parts, and circulation is normalized. This brings on relaxation and revitalizes energy. It contributes positively towards achieving harmony on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.

For How Long Have People Been Practicing It?

Foot reflex massage is ancient. It was being used in 2500 B.C. in Egypt and for over 4000 years in China and in India. In 1913, Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West, and, in the 1930's, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as reflexology.

What Are The Benefits of It?

Reflexology is appropriate for every body.

However, people with the following conditions may not be suitable to receive reflexology treatments: Contagious or infectious illnesses (tuberculosis, hepatitis, AIDS, influenza), certain medications, diabetes (uncontrolled), digestive ulcer, epilepsy, fever (high or chronic), foot/leg conditions (athlete's foot, open sores, phlebitis, thrombosis), severe osteoporosis, ulcers, varicose veins, warts, wounds), heart problems, pregnancy, recent surgery. Speak with your practitioner BEFORE arranging for a session.

Reflexologists do not diagnose, prescribe or cure specific diseases. Reflexology does not interfere with most conventional medication and can be used along with most other forms of medical care. Reflexology sessions are particularly beneficial for stress-related disorders, which can account for 75% of all illnesses.

Reflexology can benefit the following conditions, among others (just a few examples are given for each):
